Boutique Couture Jewelry better known as bou-cou was born out of necessity. Frustrated with not being able to find the perfect jewelry to compliment her style, designer, Becka Cowan, decided to make her own. Her creations were so unique and fashion forward, people would compliment her on them. Soon, she received requests from friends and bou-cou is sold in boutiques in several states.
the jewelry
Each piece of jewelry is crafted by hand using textured chains, exotic stones, unusual beads and vintage finds. Every creation is its own work of art, and no two bou-cou are alike. You can be certain that your bou-cou is unique.
the designer
Becka Cowan is a native Atlantan. She graduated from Lovejoy High School, attended Georgia State, and received her BA in Communications from the University of Newcastle in Newcastle, Australia. She still calls Atlanta home, where she has her studio in the Old 4th Ward.
the labels
The bou-cou logo is an image of Becka’s maternal grandmother, Consuelo Lozano. Her parternal grandmother, Toni Cowan, is on her brown card tags. (She’s the one in the middle.) Both women were beautiful, strong, fashionable women. Using their images not only honors the memory of their strength and inspiration, but speaks to Becka’s vision for bou-cou – to draw from the beauty of the past and bring it forward to the women of today.
